Hunter PvP Tips: Hunter vs Rogue

Everyone hates Rogues in PvP. I'd go far as to wager that even Rogues hate other Rogues in PvP. It's totally exasperating when one pops in behind you, stuns and stabs you to death and you feel like there was simply nothing at all you could do about it. I've heard other Hunters say simply, "When a good Rogue gets on me I just stand there and try to figure out which graveyard I'm going to spawn at." This is not the way to deal with them.

One of the biggest challenges with fighting the Rogue class is obviously you rarely see them coming, right? When a huge Tauren Warrior, for example, is running up on you there are a few seconds where you can react, mentally layout what your plan of attack and defense is going to be and then open up on them. The first time you know you're fighting a Rogue is typically when you get Stun Locked. You've got to have a couple of quick reactive steps in the back of your mind.

Traps are your friend and Rogues hate themwhich makes them even better. Drop a Freezing Trap and stand on it. When the sneaky Rogue gets snapped up in it step back and drop another one. Chain Trapping is fun and good for you!

When to Trinket? A lot of the good Rogues out there will Sap you hoping you'll blow a trinket to get out of it. Resist doing this. In most cases you'll want to use your Trinket when they pop you with Kidney Shot. On the other hand some of the good guys out there want you to Trinket the Kidney Shot and you may want to experiment with popping on the Cheap Shot. Just don't do it on the Sap.

When holding a node (flag, tower, hut, whatever) randomly scatter shot into possible approach lanes once in a while. You can catch them with this maneuver more often than you think especially if you've got a few good pinch points nearby.

A nice move, once you've got them in your sites, is to drop a trap and hit Disengage. This, ideally, will tie them up for a bit (until they trinket) and give you some much needed distance. As soon as they get out of the trap make sure you're pouring on the pain with your hard hitting shots. Once you've got some room you'll need to keep them on the run, kite them around a trap, and get your pet in on the action. Make sure you've got your Mark on them and keep the flares going.

Deterrence is your friend!
