Hunter PvP Tips: Hunter vs Druid

As a Hunter in PvP fighting a Druid the attack and defense style you use will depend almost entirely on the build of the Druid. If they are running as Feral fight them off as you would a Rouge. If they come in as a Resto Druid (aka Agitated Shrub) fight them as you would a Priest but be prepared for a very long fight. What the Hunter really needs to be careful of is the Boomkins (Balance Spec) as a well played Balance Druid can deal some serious damage and do it from range.

Before running a Hunter I had a Balance Druid and I really, really liked fighting Hunters. Pretty much I'd eat 9 out of 10 for lunch. It was no contest. The Balance Druid is almost built to take out Hunters in PvP and it takes a Hunter who is quick and on top of his game to out maneuver a Boomkin one on one.

Here's what I'd do to mop the floor with Hunters with a Boomkin. Typically starting out in Caster form pop a few Heal Over Time (HOT) spells then pop into Boomkin. On approach hit them with a Moonfire and Insect Swarm then sleep the pet that invariably was almost on me. Root the Hunter then spam Wrath until Starfire proc'd. If they were warming up an Aimed shot (which happens a lot for some reason) hit them with a Typhoon for the interrupt and the blow back. Reroot, drop Trees, refresh the DOTs and Wrath to death. Once in a while for fun a Hurricane is a kick as well.

The one really good trick to beating a Boomkin requires you taking them out of their element. Silence or mana drain them to force a switch into Bear or Cat. If you're a Beast Master get your pet nice and angry and get them chewing on that Druid ASAP. I can tell you from experience that most Balance Druids out there have been playing in that Spec for a while and are not nearly as efficient in Feral when it comes ot dealing damage.

With a few talent points in the Natures Reach talent gives the Balance Druid some impressive range on spell casting that some Hunters might not be ready for. Allowing one of these guys to stand and cast, assuming you'll our DPS them, is a big mistake. As the gearing and builds for Boomkins become more powerful and effective they are becoming a real problem for Hunters in PvP!

Bill spends way too much time running Druids, Hunters and Priests around the Battlegrounds and Arenas of World of Warcraft. Chances are you'll find him running amok in game or adding to his websites at WoWDruid.com and HunterPvP.com.
