Beastmaster Hunter PvP

BM Hunter PvP play can be both really enjoyable and effective or really, really frustrating. As a Beastmaster a good amount of your Hunters power resides within your pet. There are a couple of situations where the BM hunter will shine and a couple where your hunter will pretty much get worked over. Don't worry, it takes some time to really get the hang of playing this spec in the PvP environment.
If you happen to be in a scuffle with a finger wiggler (Mage, Balance Druid, Warlock, etc) the odds are going to be in your favor if you can get the pet on them quickly. As the pet is chewing on a caster type you'll tend to have better pet crit chances and good odds of interrupting their castingwhich is always a good thing. When up against a melee type, however, you'll have more problems.
One of the roles that a BM hunter PvP's very well is on Defense at a flag or node in the battle grounds. Take a well spec'd BM Hunter coupled with a Shaman or Druid and you have a very serious combination. With this combo you'll have some good buffs helping your pet's crit chance and DPS. The crowd control (CC) offered by this combo is also perfect for holding an attack until help arrives.
The reason you'll tend to see a lot of BM hunters in PvP, especially in the lower levels, is a lot of players will level up as a Beastmaster. When starting their toon they see someone else running around with a huge Red Kitty and think, "That's cool! I'm going BM!" This naturally carries on as they being to explore the Battlegounds and Arena. In fact a lot of the Hunters out there begin to seriously consider other builds is after they have run a few BG's with their BM Hunter. After getting rolled a few times these players either decide that PvP just stinks or that they need to switch up their builds.
Now don't get me wrong here, running the BG's as a BM can totally be done. I've seen some nasty BM Hunters causing total mayhem and racking up the Honor Points. You don't see nearly as many topping the leader boards as those Hunters running Marksman or a Survival-Marksmen combo but it does happen.
If you get a kick out of shredding Mages and running defense in the BG's then BM Hunter PvP is something you might want to explore. If you are more into stepping right into the fray and going head to head, dealing tons of damage and screwing with people with traps and CC you may want to consider a Marksman Survival Build.
