Is there a Best Hunter PvP Pet

I'm going to say it, "There is no one best hunter PvP pet." It true! There are so many different possible roles that hunters can play in PvP that the question is basically impossible to answer. There are, however, some general guidelines that might help you out.

We've got two main areas to be concerned about here that we can at least start to work on: Battleground PvP pets and Arena PvP pets.

In the BG's your pet choice is going to depend on your playing style quite a bit. The safe answer, at least in picking a Hunter PvP pet tree, is a pet from the Cunning Family Tree. This tree includes the Bats, the Birds of Prey and Ravagers. Why this tree? These pets are more balanced that the other two trees therefore offering you the ability to use them in many different roles. A Cunning Pet can handle itself when you are on full offense charging into the fray and, at the same time, be a huge help when you are playing defense guarding a flag.

A few exceptions are worth noting: First, if you are working on a Hunter PvP twink in the lower levels, say the 20's, you might go for a Tenacity pet. Thought process on this is a lot of noob PvP players at the lower levels have yet to learn how to deal with pets in the BG's. Chances are they will stand there trying to kill your pet while you hang back and mow them down from a distance (this is a great deal of fun by the way). Second, if you are part of a premade BG group and you have a specific role to play, say DPS on taking nodes, you may look into a Ferocity pet for higher damage output. Just something to consider if you have a very specific need from your PvP pet.

When you start looking at choosing the best hunter pvp pet for Arena play, however, the question becomes a great deal harder. Depending on your area team make up (classes, builds, etc) and size (2v2, 3v3, 5v5) your pet choice can often be critical.

If your hunters' role in your Arena team is first and foremost crowd control (say on the healer or caster) you are going to need a pet that can assist in that role. If you are in the Arena to simply deal as much burst damage as possible your pet is going to need to be right there with you dishing out the DPS.

Above all you need to try out several different pets and get comfortable with the strengths and weaknesses of each. You have the ability to own several pets at a time. Knowing which one to take out of the stable for the specific PvP task at hand, and how to play that specific pet, will be the difference between an average performance and topping the leader boards. Thanks!
